Potential Meeting Planners Get Your Sea Legs Before You Submit Another Resume!

October 18th, 2010

Cruise events and meetings at sea are becoming the new norm, and that means that meeting planners that are moving up in the world might get a chance to go along for the excursion. Not a bad fringe benefit, but it is certainly not one that many people would have expected of a job that was relegated to low- to mid-level employees until recently. The changing economic climate is altering the relative position of most meeting planners in the corporate ladder, and the result is that more meeting planners are being brought closer to the top of the corporate ladder than ever before.

With that elevation does come some perks and responsibilities, but one of the perks actually is a responsibility. Luckily, meeting planners that plan great cruise events are in such high demand that the entire affair does seem to blur the lines between duty and responsibility, which is not at all uncommon when discussing cruise meetings in general. After all, where can someone walk 2 minutes out of a world-class meeting room with an unparalleled view and end up in a mall with several 4+ star restaurants, a world-class gym and more? Maybe in Vegas, but the views there rarely change while cruise ships offer a new view every day and some of the most amazing sunsets and sun rises on the planet.

If you are a meeting planner and this sounds like your idea of a dream job then get ready to start tailoring your resume!

Host Your Next Conference on a Cruise Ship

September 20th, 2010

If you are a meeting planner searching for an exciting, innovative new venue for an upcoming convention, conference or trade show that will ensure great attendance, you should consider hosting your next event on a cruise ship. Whether you opt for a dockside charter or an event at sea, cruise ships – which can accommodate up to 5,000 people – will significantly increase the appeal of your event.

Attending a convention on a cruise ship will be something different and exciting for most people, and will be alluring enough to convince any indecisive people that they should definitely attend.

Cruise ships offer a self-contained venue with all of the services and amenities you require to host a successful event or meeting at sea and can be planned in a way that will support a variety of event budgets. Cruising also provides the opportunity to have a willingly captive audience for your event, especially if you opt for a full-ship charter, which allows you to customize the entire venue and schedule, including liberal logo placement to increase awareness and recognition of your brand.

Cruise events are also much more cost effective than a land based venue, since cruising is typically all inclusive. In addition to lodging, meals and entertainment, cruise ships offer state-of-the-art meeting facilities and equipment, decorations, and other items which are included on a cruise ship but will generally cost extra at a land based venue. A cruise event can cost as much as 40 percent less than a land based venue.

When you opt to host your next conference, trade show or convention on a cruise ship, it is sure to be a memorable event that will have the attendees talking about you and your planning services long after they are back on shore, ensuring that they will remember your company name the next time they are in need of event planning services.

An all inclusive cruise event can save you up to 40% compared to land based venues since so much is included. Meals, meeting rooms, A/V, coffee breaks, activities, entertainment and even room service are part of the all-inclusive cruise fare.

Things to Consider When Planning Group Travel

August 2nd, 2010

Group incentive travel is an excellent way for companies to reward innovative, creative, and productive employees. Because these top performers are an invaluable asset to the company, it is essential that they are aware of how much their hard work is appreciated by those in charge. In times when finances are lean, companies may be reluctant to plan incentive travel programs, such as cruise events. However, minimizing the importance of corporate travel incentives can have a negative impact on employees. When planning a travel program, there are several factors that will determine the affordability of group incentive travel.

The price of the incentive travel will depend significantly on the number of people in the group. Many times, generous discounts will be offered for group travel; therefore, organizations should not look at individual costs when determining the budget. Rather, they should consider the cost for the entire group including any discounts offered. Costs that will need to be factored in include: airfare to the desired destination, accommodations such as ship charter, hotel or resort, dinners, receptions, group activities, and entertainment. While there may be other factors that will also need to be considered, these will be the main costs associated with group travel planning.

Desirable Corporate Incentives

July 21st, 2010

There are many types of corporate incentives that companies can offer to their prized employees. They may provide these top-notch professionals with things such as tickets for sporting events or other types of gifts. While these corporate incentives can be good, corporate travel incentives are even better. However, not just any type of corporate travel incentive will do. These incentives must be desirable and something to which employees will want to attain. Desirable corporate travel incentives may include land venues such as hotels or resorts, but one of the most popular types of incentive travel is cruise events.

An incentive cruise is an excellent corporate travel incentive. An incentive cruise offers a break from the mundane and provides a fresh venue to encourage innovative thinking. When organizations choose a ship charter and meetings at sea, everything they will need will be included. The all inclusive aspect of a cruise events makes this travel incentive even more desirable. Furthermore, an incentive cruise will offer participants the opportunity to visit exotic locations. Organizations should not be concerned that this travel incentive will be unaffordable and unproductive. The opposite is true. Cruise events are quite affordable, they will inspire dedicated employees to think outside the box and be more creative in their work.

Group Cruise Planning: Easier Than You May Think

July 19th, 2010

As any meeting planner can attest, scheduling a meeting for a business or organization is no easy task. Many factors have to be taken into consideration, and one of the greatest hindrances to meeting planning is often scheduling conflicts. For this reason, many meeting planners might shy away from planning an incentive cruise because they feel it would be too difficult to schedule. On the contrary, group cruise planning can sometimes be much easier than planning land venue meetings. If a business or organization is in need of meeting planning assistance, meeting planners may want to consider a cruise event as an ideal travel incentive.

Group cruise planning is quite simple because everything is included. Accommodations, meeting spaces, dining, entertainment, and leisure activities are all available in one place. Furthermore, a ship charter can be scheduled for anywhere from 3 to 14 days. Cruise events can be scheduled to take place during the week, which means that no work days are lost. Corporations can choose how many days they wish to reserve their ship charter, and make the necessary scheduling arrangements around these days. Cruise ships are equipped with the latest technologies; therefore, participants will not have to worry about missing important emails or phone calls.

How to Plan Cruise Events

June 28th, 2010

If you just got out of a meeting with the boss who just happens to want the company’s first cruise event planned, then you might be a little panicked. All that time making friends with the powers that be at the local hotels and conference halls cannot prepare you for this. Don’t worry!

Here are some simple steps to planning the perfect cruise event:

Start by trying to get a good handle on how many people will be attending.

Will any (or all) of the participants need you to schedule additional travel?

Are there special needs that any of these people have that need to be addressed? Examples include dietary needs, special access requirements, and even placement on the ship.

Determine a suitable meeting schedule and create a few backup schedules that may or may not happen depending upon conditions and attendees.

Try to think of unique events that can be used to help people unwind and relax while on the cruise. Some of these ideas can be translated into really unique meeting ideas.

Go to Seasite.com to plan a group cruise.  They will take the workload off of you with unparalleled group cruise planning tools and resources.  One electronic RFP will get you the quotes you need.

At this point there should be a lot less work on your plate! Congratulations, this cruise event is going to be a success!

Incentive Cruises: A Great Return on Investment

June 16th, 2010

The job of a meeting planner is to determine a meeting venue that will provide the most motivation for employees to be top-performers and provide the organization with the best value for their money. In times past, this has been a difficult feat for meeting planners. With the advent and popularity of meetings at sea, successful meeting planning has become a bit easier. Not only are cruise events ideal ways to motivate employees, but they can save organizations up to 40 percent of the cost of a land venue such as a hotel or resort.

A ship charter, as opposed to a land venue, can save a company quite a bit of money as mentioned previously. There are other ways in which cruise events can be financially beneficial. Because the cost of lodging, meals, entertainment, and recreational activities can be included in the price, there are no additional expenses that will be incurred. There are many dining experiences from which employees may choose, and the entertainment options are numerous. Since a cruise is a self-contained environment, employees will be more readily available for group events and employees will have a better opportunity for relationship building and networking occasions.
